Park Board Continues anti-cannabis campaign after 420

The Vancouver Park Board continued its campaign against the 420 Vancouver protest, closing the fields at Sunset Beach the day after the protest. Originally, the park board said it could take up to 10 weeks (two and a half months!) before the park was reopened to the public, but in a statement on Apr. 23, […]

Bill 30 & Bill 31: The End of BC Bud?

British Columbia’s Cannabis Control and Licensing Act (Bill 30), and Cannabis Distribution Act (Bill 31) are two pieces of legislature nonsense modeled after the Liquor Control and Licensing Act and the Liquor Distribution Act. What was the point of consulting with BC’s underground industry if you ignored all their suggestions?  Cannabis isn’t liquor and it […]

What Are the Benefits Of Vaping Weed?

Cannabis vaporization came into popularity when users began to realize the benefits of vaping weed versus smoking. Traditionally cannabis has always been combusted but now we have the technology to vaporize. In fact, there are portable, desktop and oil pen vaporizers for added stealth on the market now. When comparing the differences between smoking and vaping we’ll focus on dry herb vaporizers.

Smoke vs. Vapor: What Are You Inhaling?

The greatest distinction between smoking and vaping is combustion. If any combustion occurs, you’ll be inhaling more than just cannabinoids.

In fact, a study that was designed to evaluate the efficacy of herbal vaporizers illustrated it. The study used the same type of cannabis to both vaporize and smoke. What they found was the vaporized cannabis consisted of mostly cannabinoids with a trace of three other compounds. On the other hand, combusted smoke had over 111 compounds including a wide range of toxins.

One of the only advantages to smoking over vaping is it won’t cost you much up front. However, a vaporizer used over a long-term will save you weed and money. Another advantage of smoking is simplicity. To many packing a bowl or rolling a joint comes easier than packing a vaporizer.

Another study found that cannabis users who vaporize were less likely to report respiratory symptoms. So what are the benefits of vaping? Users can still get the benefits of cannabinoids without the pyrolytic smoke compounds.

Finally, research from Leiden University found that the effects of using a vaporizer gave similar results to smoking with less harmful side effects. “The final pulmonal uptake of THC is comparable to the smoking of cannabis while avoiding the respiratory disadvantages of smoking.”

Avoiding combustion also drastically reduces the lingering smell of cannabis. Vaporizers will have an easier time going unnoticed after and during the consumption of cannabis.

Why Do Some People Still Prefer Smoking?

When it comes to your health, vaporization seems like the best method of inhalation. Despite the growing awareness of the benefits of vaping, many people that have tried a vaporizer still choose to smoke regularly. This is because vaporization comes with a few deterrents.

Convenience

Some vaporizers have learnings curves that make it hard to use and share with beginners. Others have to be repacked in order to be shared. Passing a joint is an easier and more universal way of sharing cannabis.

Price

Another thing that deters people from vaporization is the initial cost. The best portable vaporizers for dry herbs cost up to $300 but they bring out the best qualities from your cannabis. Anything under a hundred dollars is unlikely to effectively vaporize your herbs. Consider purchasing one of the top portable vaporizers a long-term investment.

Cleaning

A large downside is the cleaning process. When smoking a joint you can just toss it when it starts to taste more like paper than weed. However, a dry herb vaporizer needs to be cleaned regularly for optimal function.

You’ll have to brush the chamber out whenever you’re done vaporizing. Some people move onto the next pack when the weed turns yellowish-brown while others will cook it until it is dark brown. It will also require a deep cleaning every once in a while because oils will build up wherever air travels from the chamber to the mouthpiece.

When it comes to desktop vaporizers, they come in many different styles. Some have a whip for a mouthpiece, a water attachment or the fillable balloon. There are just more pieces to clean and take care of when you compare it to smoking.

Batteries

Portable vaporizers need to be charged. If you forget to charge it and don’t have a charger or a place to charge you’re stuck with a temporary paperweight. In those situations, it is much easier to find papers and a lighter if you don’t already have them handy.

The benefits of vaping weed are mostly health and stealth related. There are many cons to vaporization that have kept many people from fully adopting the method of consumption. As vapor technology becomes more accessible and more people realize the benefits, will people will abandon papers and pipes in search of a cleaner high?

YouTube Remains Silent as Weed Pages Are Purged

YouTube is shutting down, and issuing “strikes” against, accounts that feature marijuana or marijuana-adjacent content at an unprecedented rate. The crackdown is leaving many in the community who’ve built large subscriber bases and revenue streams wondering, “what the hell changed?”

Dontae, founder and executive producer of the cannabis entertainment and education production company Loaded Up Entertainment, told High Times that his page received three strikes over the last few months, resulting in a deletion of its YouTube channel last week. A video from the channel’s educational series about the best munchies to eat while high was the final strike, Dontae was informed days after the deletion.

“We are definitely considering moving to other platforms,” he told us. That might include sites like The WeedTube, which was created in response to cannabis censorship on YouTube. Loaded Up’s deletion “gave us an awakening call that social media platforms are just tools for us to use—and that you have to go really go for a platform where people can go that’s not going to be censored out.”

Loaded Up—which had about 200,000 subscribers before the deletion—is one of numerous channels producing weed-related videos that have been shut down in recent weeks. Other channels have seen an uptick in specific videos “flagged for review” and “deleted” due to alleged community guideline violations.

What Does YouTube’s Community Guidelines Actually Say?

Videos that promote “violent or dangerous acts” or show “drug abuse, underage drinking and smoking, or bomb making” violate YouTube’s community guidelines. Well, when it comes to content featuring marijuana, which is legal in some form in 29 states, that might seem subjective. Do educational videos about how to roll a joint qualify as promoting dangerous acts? Do first-person reviews of pipes show drug abuse according to the video company’s standards?

For its part, YouTube has remained silent on the increased enforcement of its ambiguous community guidelines targeting weed-related pages. We reached out for comment, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.

There Are Some Theories About the Purging

Last year, reports surfaced that showed YouTube was running ads on “objectionable content,” including videos depicting violence, promoting hate-speech, and showing disturbing scenes involving underage children. Numerous corporate advertisers took part in boycotts against YouTube in response, and the company has since made repeated promises to increase enforcement of its community guidelines to ensure that ads don’t get placed on improper content.

Then, of course, there was the Logan Paul scandal earlier this year. When the vlogger posted a video of a man who’d committed suicide (since deleted), public outrage led to a rare open letter from YouTube. The company said it was “listening to everything [viewers have been] saying” and acknowledged that “the actions of one creator can affect the entire community.”

Again, it pledged to take actions to prevent similar content from being circulated.

Is it possible that weed accounts are vanishing from YouTube as a casualty of these new technologies and enforcement directives? Has Google, YouTube’s parent company, received negative feedback from advertisers whose commercials appeared on marijuana content? We don’t know! Because they haven’t told us—or the content creators—aside from sending out the standard community guideline violation notice.

Coral Reefer, a globetrotting influencer who posts videos of her marijuana adventures on a page with about 120,000 subscribers, told us that YouTube’s apparent targeting of weed pages puts them squarely “on the losing side of the cannabis conversation.” Her channel has been spared in the purging so far, but she recently received a “strike” against a video of her making edibles.

“With or without the corporation’s involvement, the truth and information we have to share about cannabis will reach more and more people, and instead of being a tool to spread a message for legalization, they have cannabis content creators scrambling to create backup channels, or leaving the network entirely,” Coral said. “YouTube inspired me to believe my voice mattered, and I won’t sit down and be silenced now that they’ve changed their mind.”

Senator Supports Removing Marijuana as a Controlled Substance

The American people have known for years that times are changing when it comes to marijuana. Now, it seems somecannabis business politicians at the federal level are starting to wise up and take this issue seriously as well. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) is introducing a bill to remove marijuana from the list of Schedule I narcotics as part of Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. Section 812. He said he also wants to leverage this issue as a way to bolster women and minority cannabis business owners.

Politicians have been slow to take a stance in favor of cannabis, even though most of us know it can be a life-changing, medically useful drug. Some have supported passive measures here and there trying to give states some freedom without themselves taking a stand. For example, the Rohrenbacher-Blumenauer Amendment, which has to be renewed annually by Congress into the spending bill, prevents the Department of Justice from using federal funds to seek action against medical marijuana activity that has been legalized in that state. Some have tried to inaccurately portray cannabis as a partisan liberal issue, but even democrats have been shy to give full support. However, as The Washington Post reported, Sen. Schumer has acknowledged that the American people have evolved on this issue and it’s time for a big change.

As our trusted Riverside cannabis business attorneys can explain, by removing the Schedule I status, the federal government would not be legalizing marijuana per say. That would require Congress to create and pass regulations and rules for how the cannabis industry would function nationwide. Rather by removing it from the list, marijuana becomes decriminalized and whatever laws are established by each state would become the highest authority unless Congress takes further action. It would also acknowledge that marijuana has no business being classified Schedule I, a designation given to drugs that have no medical benefits, are addictive, and are harmful. Examples of other drugs on this list are heroin and LSD. Removing this classification would also open the doors to much needed funding for medical marijuana testing and research, that previously has been restricted.

It is to be expected that there would still be some fringe people who would still be clinging to archaic ideas about marijuana. After all,  the rampant anti-marijuana propaganda of the past century was pretty powerful and is difficult to deprogram from the American psyche. But it is unconscionable that those politicians who know the evidence and science would continue to stand by and allow so many constituents to be branded as criminals in the eyes of the Department of Justice. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is one of the people more persuaded by propaganda than evidence on this issue and has vowed to enforce marijuana’s Schedule I status. This is why declassification is more important now than with the past administration, whose DOJ was more sympathetic on the matter.

It’s remarkable to look around at how far we’ve come since 1996 when California was the first state to pass medical marijuana protections with Proposition 215. Now there are now 29 states as well as the District of Columbia that have legalized medical marijuana. Of those states, eight also allow recreational use. That means the majority of people in this country live where marijuana has been legalized by the state. Our attorneys support federal declassification of marijuana as a vital step in the protections of the rights of patients and responsible recreational users in California.

Bongs Over Beer: Marijuana Businesses Cutting into Other Industries

Marijuana businesses have become a major competitor to beer and willmarijuana business lawyers continue to disrupt that industry for the foreseeable future.

An investment firm industry analyst, who specializes in beverages, tobacco, and adult-use marijuana, recently shared data with CNBC, and she established a clear correlation between increased use of marijuana and decreased use of alcohol. She said in states where recreational marijuana use is legal, binge drinking rates have dropped “significantly.” She identified both as “social lubricants.” In other words, both are used by adults in social situations to help unwind, de-stress, have a good time, and feel relaxed with new people or in new environments.

In terms of stocks, the numbers are clear, as well. Her firm primarily valuates the Canadian market, with Canada on track to legalize adult-use marijuana nationwide by the end of summer. Several Canadian medical marijuana companies are seeing shares grow by up to 240 percent in the past year in anticipation. She said estimates from her firm put the U.S. cannabis industry as being worth $75 billion by 2030, assuming marijuana is removed as a Schedule I narcotic from the Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. Section 812.Our experienced Orange County marijuana business lawyers know that, for quite some time, there have been numbers to support the story of the benefits of medical marijuana. Thousands upon thousands of patients have found relief from cancer treatment symptoms, anxiety, post-traumatic stress symptoms, migraines, and more. This evidence has been compelling to many, but momentum on legalization has been slow. It’s been more than 20 years since California led the way in medical marijuana legalization with the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, and it’s just now we’re seeing the country really lean in favor of legalization. There are now 29 states (plus Washington, D.C.) that have legalized medical use.

The obvious health benefits, supported by the anecdotal evidence of a couple decades worth of patients, should have been enough to declassify cannabis a long time ago. Its Schedule I status indicates that the drug has no medical benefits, which is laughable when witnessing all those who have found relief under the supervision of their physicians. As we all know, though, money talks. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the numbers attached to dollar signs are the ones driving the most momentum in the cannabis legalization narrative today. The good news is, the potential for financial gain is plentiful for both medical and recreational, which means we could see more states supporting adult-use.

Even recreational use could have its health benefits if the analyst’s predictions are true. If people continue to choose cannabis over alcohol (where such a choice is legal) we could see fewer alcohol-related deaths. Because cannabis can be ingested in a variety of ways, there are choices that can limit exposure to health risks, unlike alcohol. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 30,722 people died from causes induced by alcohol in 2014. This number only includes direct ways that alcohol affects the body and does not include accidents or homicides that took place while under the influence. While the comparison to cannabis is not precise, given the easy, long-term access to alcohol versus the abundant restrictions on marijuana nationwide, it’s still highly telling that there were zero marijuana-induced deaths that same year.

The benefits across the board are blatant, but if a strong bottom line is what it takes for the rest of the country to get on board with marijuana legalization, then so be it. No matter what the future holds, our team of attorneys will be here to protect your rights and assist you with all of your marijuana-related legal needs.

Sleep Survey Shows Many Light Up Before Lights Out

Now that marijuana has become legalized in some form in 29 states as well as Washington, D.C., we are gathering moremedical marijuana data than ever on its potential uses and benefits. With the stigma dissipating and access increased, people are more freely sharing their personal stories surrounding this life-changing plant. These anecdotes are important evidence in the fight to legalize marijuana nationwide.

A recent survey conducted by Sleep Cycle, an app designed to track your sleep cycle, has found that 14 percent of respondents used marijuana to help them sleep, according to Herb. The company surveyed about 1,000 of its application users on what methods they used to help them gets to sleep. Tea topped the list at 21 percent, melatonin came in second with 15 percent, and cannabis tied with milk and cookies at 14 percent. It should be noted that prescribed sleeping pills rested at the bottom of the list at 9 percent, an indication that people are eager for more natural remedies to their sleeping disorders, insomnia, or general sleep troubles. While tea certainly can do the trick, there is growing evidence marijuana can dig into more serious sleeping issues.

Some research has found the effects of cannabis on sleep to be two-fold. Cannabidiol (CBD) can have a soothing, therapeutic affect. Tetrahydrocannabidinol (THC) is reported to reduce REM sleep, thereby reducing the dream cycle. This is said to have significant benefits for those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as many may relive past traumas during nightmares.

Our skilled medical marijuana attorneys in Orange County know legalization at the federal level is critical not only to give more people access to the benefits of cannabis, but also to open the door to more comprehensive medical testing. The effectiveness of marijuana on certain sleep disorders is dependent on strain, balance of CBD to THC, and dosage. Doctors, however, are restrained by limited data on such matters as a result of Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. Section 812. Under this act, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I narcotic, putting it in a class of drugs considered to have no medical benefits, and therefore making medical marijuana testing prohibited at the federal level. Much of the information our doctors know is from foreign studies or their own direct work with patients. All the evidence is there to declassify marijuana if our representatives can put aside archaic ideology and political posturing.

We’re fortunate here in California to have more than 20 years of medical marijuana legalization, making our doctors some of the most experienced in the country when it comes to serving patients. Our team of lawyers also have amassed years of experience in this field and will use it to protect patients and the medical marijuana doctors and dispensaries that serve them. We hope the day comes soon when people all across the country will have the freedom to choose marijuana for PTSD or pain management or recreational use or for a good night’s sleep. Until that day comes, and beyond, you can rest easy knowing we are here fighting for you and your rights.

The (Legal) 411 on 4/20 Fun

Recreational marijuana became legal in California January 1st, meaning this is the first year cannabis has beenmarijuana criminal defense available to all adults on the infamous marijuana holiday of 4/20. While it is perfectly legal to enjoy the festivities, our experienced attorneys also know that Proposition 64 is not a free pass on all pot-related activities. Before imbibing in a safe and responsible way, keep in mind the laws remaining on the books per the CA Health and Safety Code, Division 10, Ch. 6, Article 2 could still result in criminal charges or civil citations.

The following is a list of a few major restrictions to keep in mind when enjoying the perks of recreational marijuana in California:

  1. Public consumption: It is still generally illegal to ingest, smoke, or vaporize weed in a public place. There are some exceptions for state-licensed facilities with permission from local governments. Further, any non-smoking area is also off limits for smoking or vaporizing marijuana. It is also forbidden within 1,000 feet of a day care or school occupied by children (unless you are inside a private residence that falls within that perimeter).
  2. Drugged driving: It should be a no-brainer that it is illegal to drive while under the influence of cannabis. As a recent article from The Sacramento Bee points out, taking one puff or consuming a small amount is not likely to cause impairment, much like a little alcohol is typically fine. However, it is more difficult to know where that line exists with marijuana. THC levels can vary widely, making it less clear what dose a person can consume without impairment. Marijuana can also set in slowly, meaning it could hit well after consumption, possibly while you’re on the road. This makes it difficult to judge simply by how you feel before you get in the car.Just like alcohol, drivers should be aware that open container laws also apply to cannabis. Open or unsealed containers of marijuana must be kept in the trunk, with the exception of those with a medical marijuana card. In those instances, cannabis can be in the main part of the vehicle, but still must be in a closed container. Our attorneys cannot emphasize enough, these laws also apply to passengers. The laws also apply to other motor vehicles, like boats and aircrafts.
  3. Age restriction: You must be 21 years of age or older to consume cannabis recreationally. Period. The reasons for this restriction are not simply adults trying to ruin all the fun. Cannabis has been shown to potentially have a negative effect on developing brains, making young people who consume marijuana more susceptible to certain disorders.
  4. Drug-free workplaces: Even if you have a super cool boss who doesn’t drug test and doesn’t mind if you use recreationally in your free time, chances are they do not approve of being under the influence while on the job. Don’t lose your career over something that can just as easily be enjoyed on your own time. And be extra cautious if you do not have a cool boss. California does not yet have in place protections for workers who test positive for cannabis, even though it’s legal in the state.

Our Los Angeles marijuana criminal defense lawyers first and foremost want everyone who is celebrating the “high holy day” to do so in a way that is safe. If you do find yourself in trouble, you need a skilled defense attorney like ours on your side who has the experience to provide strong representation for all marijuana-related criminal offenses.

Smoking Weed to Be Able to See

Many people today know there are healing properties in cannabis yet assume that smoking a joint is not the most medicinal route to treat an illness; that an edible, oil or capsule would be more effective… If we are talking about illnesses that affect the eyes, that assumption is wrong. What if being able to […]

Is Trump Just Blowing Smoke with Marijuana Promise?

For more than a year, the country has faced uncertainty over the future of cannabis, thanks to the long-time and aggressive anti-marijuana business lawyersmarijuana stance of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. That uncertainty remains, but there is some evidence we could be seeing some positive shifts on the horizon.

Well-known marijuana advocate Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colorado) recently had a conversation in which President Trump agreed to support Congressional protections of states with legalized cannabis, according to The Washington Post. This comes after Sen. Gardner had been taking advantage of the narrow party margin in the U.S. Senate to block nominees for the Justice Department. The senator agreed to start approving nominees in exchange for the president’s support. But before anyone starts busting out the party bongs in celebration, our trusted Orange County marijuana business lawyers must remind Californians that this is not the first time Trump has said he would hold back interference with states that had pro-marijuana laws on the books. In fact, it was something he touted during his campaign, something that made states hopeful that provisions put in place during the Obama administration would remain regardless of the outcome of the election. This is why it was so confounding that Trump would appoint someone to the position of attorney general who not only disapproved of marijuana, but who had extreme, very public views on the issue and made promises to use his power to drag the country back into total prohibition.

Since his time as attorney general, Jeff Sessions has used his platform to perpetuate propaganda about cannabis, hiding behind the guise of upholding the law. Marijuana is a Schedule I narcotic under the Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. Section 812. Schedule I is the classification given to drugs that have no medical benefits, are addictive, and considered unsafe even with medical supervision. Because there is absolutely no evidence that any of these metrics apply to marijuana, Sessions hides behind the law itself as proof that cannabis is bad. Because of the power of this classification, federal organizations are not allowed to run official tests that would prove what we already know: that marijuana is not addictive, it’s medically beneficial, and safe under the proper regulations.

Sessions also took a more concrete stance against pot by rescinding a memorandum known as the Cole Memo, a guidance issued during the Obama administration which directed federal enforcement officials to not use limited resources on marijuana-related activity that was legal within a given state. Their efforts instead should remain focused on the most serious issues that remained illegal even within pro-pot states, such as distribution to minors, drugged driving, gun violence in the industry, and transporting to states where cannabis use is not protected.

However, Congress was able to pass a spending bill which renewed protections that prevented the Justice Department from using federal funds to go after activity related to medical marijuana use in states where it is legal. The president signed this spending bill, a small bit of evidence that his promise to Gardner might be more than just talk.

This, along with recent news that John Boehner, a republican and former speaker of the house, has joined a marijuana company advisory board, could mean that politicians are waking up to the fact that cannabis is not a partisan issue. It’s support is broad and spans across political parties. It’s time for those in power to finally represent their constituents on this matter.

How To Use A Water Pipe – Knowing The Parts

How To Use A Water Pipe: All The Important Pieces

The great thing about water pipes is they come in all different sizes and types. From tall, monstrous water pipes that stand at over three feet to small, portable and easy-to-manage water pipes, they all elicit a different experience.

For example, let’s say that you’ve recently just purchased a small, simple beaker water pipe. The instructions for this one are pretty easy: add water, add your substance of choice, grab a lighter and smoke away. Other water pipe combinations may have accessories like ash catchers, drop downs, dab nails and more that may be a little daunting to take in all at once.

Don’t sweat it. We’ll walk you through it. First, we’ll explain two different types of water pipes and their various parts.

Different Water Pipes: Stemless Water Pipes vs. Stemmed Water Pipes

While the water pipes shown here look drastically different from each other, you’ll find the steps it takes to use them are basically the same. Still, you might need to understand the different parts to get what we’re talking about.

Stemless Water Pipe Example

Let’s start by first dissecting this 16-inch water pipe. This awesome device is made up of many components, like the spinning disc splash guard. The neck, sitting slightly above the splash guard, is made of an impressive 50x7MM of Thick Ass Glass.

As you move down the water pipe, you’ll find two honeycomb discs, which are a kind of percolator. The small holes aerate the water as you inhale. The purpose of this part is to allow for a smoother and more enjoyable hit.

Another important part of this stemless water pipe is the 16MM thick base. This base will keep your water pipe standing sturdy on your desk, table or nightstand.

Stemmed Water Pipe Example

Beaker water pipes like this stemmed example are more suited for first-time glass pipe owners. The reason is their wide base. With a beaker base, you get a large circumference base that will be sturdy for any table or desk and therefore easier to use.

The beaker water pipe shown here also has a diffused downstem. A diffused downstem is a downstem that has little holes in the bottom to diffuse the smoke without a separate percolator. Diffusion is literally the smashing or dividing of bubbles, increasing the surface area. The more surface area of the bubbles, the cooler your smoke will be.

Lastly, this water pipe features an ice pinch. If you’re a newbie, we’ll let you in on an age-old trick for smoother hits: adding ice. Adding ice cools down the smoke so that it doesn’t burn. The ice pinch holds the ice above the water line, where it can best cool the smoke. It’s an awesome addition for beginners!

Now that you understand these common water pipe parts, it’s time to start using them.

How To Set Up Your First Water Pipe

  • Inspect the glass pipe
  • Locate the removable pieces, such as the bowl
  • Insert the bowl into the opening (stemless or downstem)
  • Add water — enough to cover the percolators but not too much
  • Test out water levels by taking practice pulls. If the water reaches your lips, you have too much!

How To Use Your Water Pipe

  1. Insert your bowl into the downstem and add your herb of choice
  2. Light your herb with a lighter or hemp wick
  3. Place your lips over the mouthpiece at the top of the water pipe, and slowly inhale
  4. Remove your bowl, and take another hit to clear out all the smoke remaining in your water pipe
  5. Take as many more hits as you like!

Dab Rig vs. Water Pipe: What’s The Difference?

If you’re considering smoking or dabbing, you might wonder how a dab rig differs from a water pipe. The short answer is that a dab rig is a type of water pipe — but it’s designed specifically for smoking oils or concentrates.

While water pipes in general have a long- established history among the smoking community, dab rigs specifically are more of a recent trend and a peek into the future of smoking.

Both are great options to invest in, but depending on your smoking preferences, you'll have a clear choice among these two popular smoking accessories.

Learn the major differences between dab rigs and water pipes and which one is right for your smoking preferences.

It’s All About What You'll Be Smoking

First, you need to consider what you'll be smoking with this pipe. Smokers who use water pipes primarily use them to smoke tobacco, dried herbs or flowers.

Meanwhile, if you are using a dab, also known as an oil rig, you'll be using a legal concentrate along with wax, oil, or honey. To use the dab rig, you'll heat up whatever you choose as your concentrate on the dab nail to vaporize it.

Dab Rig vs. Water Pipe Parts and Accessories

Just like how you'll be smoking different things with these items, dab rigs and water pipes have different parts to help you do so.

Water pipes will use the traditional bowl piece along with a lighter to help you smoke the dried flowers, herbs or tobacco.

Meanwhile, dab rigs use a dab nail instead of a bowl piece. You’ll need to heat the dab nail with a torch to help you vaporize what you'll be smoking.

Size Comparison

Another noticeable difference between these two systems is the overall size of water pipes compared to dab rigs. There's a reason for this difference in size, and not just appearances. Water pipes tend to be larger with more room for holding multiple percolators within the device. This is because, when smoking dry herbs and flowers, you don't have to worry about them losing potency. You could have a water pipe the size of a room and not worry about the dried flowers or herbs losing their flavor as they travel.

Dab rigs are the exact opposite. Because dab rigs are used for smoking concentrates, you want the vapor to reach your lips as soon as possible for the best smoking experience.

Overall Cost

Obviously, dab rigs and water pipes will vary in their prices based on how elaborate you want to get with your smoking accessories. While water pipes and dab rigs have relatively similar costs, you'll want to remember that more accessories might be needed for your dabbing system.

The Best Water Pipe or Dab Rig for You

Ultimately, the choice of whether you use a water pipe or dab rig is up to you. Again, before you purchase a new pipe or rig, you'll want to consider:

  • What you'll be smoking.
  • The parts involved with each system.
  • Overall size, especially if you have limited storage space.
  • The cost of the water pipe or dab rig itself and whether accessories will need to be added later.

Find the best option for you when you shop our full selection of water pipes or dab rigs. Or stock up and get one of each system!

For Those in California ‘Pot Deserts,’ Legal Weed is Just a Mirage

Both medical and recreational marijuana are now legal in California. And yet for about 40 percent of the state, itrecreational marijuana would be difficult to tell. Thanks to some data analysis compiled by The Sacramento Bee, we can clearly see how local regulations have shaped the pot landscape in the state as a whole and how it is affecting people who live in more remote areas of California.

The report defined some regions of California as being “pot deserts” – areas where residents have to travel 60 miles or more to access legal marijuana at a licensed dispensary. An additional 29 percent have to drive 30 to 60 miles to the closest location. This disparity in cannabis access stems from the clause in Proposition 64 that allows local governments to establish their own set of recreational marijuana regulations or to ban sales altogether. While a majority of residents in the state clearly favor adult-use marijuana based on the 2016 vote, there is seemingly a desire among many districts to leave the actual growing, producing, and selling of the drug to other cities … cities far away from their own. From our years of experience, our Riverside recreational marijuana attorneys can say with certainty that much of this sentiment is rooted in outdated, outmoded, propaganda-riddled perspectives on marijuana. There’s a paranoia that expanding marijuana legalization in their towns will invite sketchy characters and create a seedy underbelly in their idyllic neighborhoods. Alas, by pumping the brakes on progress, they could be inviting the very thing they were afraid of right into their hometowns. Demand for marijuana, both medical and commercial, is increasing statewide as people learn more about it. By not providing a legal, regulated outlet for these people to access, local governments are making their communities vulnerable to black market sellers who very much still have a foothold in the state. The big cities are filling up with plenty of legal options for consumers to choose from, which could drive black market sellers to take advantage of these under-served pot deserts.

State Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) recently introduced bill SB 1302 to try to allow delivery services to bring cannabis to these areas, giving a more practical option for patients who depend on medical marijuana as well as adult recreational users. The bill if passed into law would “prohibit a local jurisdiction from preventing delivery of cannabis or cannabis products on public roads, or to an address that is located within the jurisdictional boundaries of that local jurisdiction” so long as those involved in the delivery were in compliance with the Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act. Push-back from local governments is imminent, as well as overcoming the challenge of an extreme shortage of state-licensed delivery operations.

Our lawyers know the keystone to marijuana legalization is safe, affordable, and easy access to regulated cannabis. Any roadblocks give black market sellers room to grow, making it more difficult for licensed businesses to stay competitive. We hope state and local officials can quickly come to a compromise that allows cities to retain control, but also connects all of the voters of California with the marijuana they helped legalize. Perhaps in the process, those who are still in the dark about the benefits of marijuana will learn it’s not so bad after all.

Google, Facebook Won’t Friend Cannabis Business Ads

For many cannabis businesses, social media seems like the ideal place to advertise. Facebook provides many tools forcannabis business advertisers that allow them to focus their audience in a way that would be extraordinarily beneficial for marijuana products and dispensaries. They would be able to narrow down the viewers to only include people in states where cannabis is legal. They would also be able to add age restrictions, ensuring as much as possible that minors would not be exposed to the ads. It’s really a win-win, except for one very annoying catch.

Marijuana businesses are prohibited from advertising on Google or Facebook.

A recent report from Washington Post examined the challenges marijuana businesses face advertising to their customers while pot remains illegal under federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. Section 812. The act outlines guidelines by which to classify certain drugs based on how dangerous a risk they pose, whether they have any medical benefits, and if they are addictive. Currently, marijuana is Schedule I, the most restricted classification on the list, despite no evidence it fits any of those qualifiers. That very same act (under Section 843) states “It shall be unlawful for any person to place in any newspaper, magazine, handbill, or other publications, any written advertisement knowing that it has the purpose of seeking or offering illegally to receive, buy, or distribute a Schedule I controlled substance.”

So how are there so many marijuana ads out there?

As our experienced Los Angeles cannabis business attorneys can explain, U.S. Code Title 21, Chapter 13, Section 863 (f1), does offer some wiggle room to advertisers. While the rest of this section describes in detail the illegality of drug paraphernalia and specifically cites that national and local advertising concerning drug use constitutes paraphernalia, it also says there is an exemption for those who “are authorized by local, State, or Federal law to manufacture, possess, or distribute such items.” This has given some leeway for advertising platforms whose reach is limited to within a state where marijuana use is legal. However, national media is still nervous about getting slapped by federal authorities.

Sometimes, according to the Post article, these outlets can be overly cautious, with some users reporting Facebook will even limit activity that does not explicitly talk about marijuana, such as an event where lobbyists were set to speak to politicians about legalization. This type of community building is the foundation of Facebook, and currently cannabis advocates are extremely limited in how they can take advantage of this resource.

Want to Honor Veterans? Access to Medical Marijuana a Good Start

As a country, many support troops with parades and national days of honor. Yetmedical marijuana when those same veterans seek help ease the mental and physical pain they endure as a result of fighting for our freedoms, their pleas often fall on deaf ears. That’s why many veterans find themselves standing up and fighting once again, this time in a battle for their own lives in the ongoing war over medical marijuana.

A group of veterans in Louisiana has been on the front lines pushing for legalization of medical cannabis in the state. According to the Leesville Daily Leader, they want to help veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder as well as chronic pain that developed as a result of their service time. Even though these veterans know medical marijuana to be a safe and effective form of treatment for these issues, using it would make them a criminal in the country they risked their life to defend due to the Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. Section 812, which classifies marijuana as a Schedule I narcotic with no medical benefits. The group hopes to at least change the law in Louisiana so the state can join 29 others in legalizing marijuana. Furthermore, they also recognize that legalization would be beneficial to all residents, so they are putting their efforts behind cannabis education. The group knows legalization has become particularly critical for veterans right now as the opioid crisis is coming to a fever pitch. As the damaging effects of opioids are becoming more widely known, government officials are pressuring doctors to cut down on prescriptions. It is obviously important to limit these harmful and addictive drugs from the mainstream, but our experienced Orange County medical marijuana attorneys know it needs to be done in a responsible manner that benefits patients. At current, many veterans have been prescribed opioids for pain and PTSD and pulling them off the drugs cold turkey can be risky. Many veterans are also experiencing one of the other negatives of opioids: users are highly susceptible to resistance to the drug over time. This leads to veterans both addicted to opioids and also still suffering from the ailment that led them to the prescription in the first place. This is precisely why so many veterans are turning to marijuana, both to ease pain and also to help wean themselves off more harmful legally prescribed drugs.

In California, we are very fortunate to be the first state to legalize medical marijuana with the Compassionate Use Act of 1996. Even so, veterans in California cannot be recommended marijuana through a Veterans Affairs health care provider because they must abide by federal law. Patients must seek a recommendation through another physician. The VA Department has made it clear, though, that veterans will not be turned away for cannabis use. They are encouraged to discuss medical marijuana use with their VA doctor so the physician can consider it in a broader treatment plan. Regardless, it is outrageous that men and women who courageously served our country must jump through such hoops to receive the treatment they need. This is why our attorneys humbly stand next to these veterans to fight for their rights as they so bravely fought for ours.
